I have been teaching for 8 years in Texas. I love what I do for sure but it was divine intervention that brought me to this career path.
I was a sophomore in college and struggled through my first accounting class, taught by the dean of the department of course. Completely shocked at my current grade point average, I asked for a meeting with the professor. I informed him that I had been on the competitive accounting team in high school and was actually pretty good at it and was unsure why I had proven to be unsuccessful thus far in his class. His response to me, "The kind of accounting you like to do is for secretaries, and I don't think your parents want to pay thousands of dollars for you to be a secretary." Dually noted Dean, dually noted. So with that I left his office as the cruel reality slapped me across the face that I no longer had a major. On campus, the education building is across the side walk from the business building. So I ran into the education building and declared my new career path...TEACHER. I thought...finger painting and snacks...I got this! I thank God that the education building was the closest building to me in my state of panic that day.
For the past three years I have served as my campus' math and science instructional specialist, math intervention specialist, and science lab teacher. I will post my latest adventures in teaching here! Keep Calm and Teach On!
